They grow up so quickly. Have you captured those precious moments?

Back to school nostalgia

This past week has seen the start of a brand new school year. And as I walking my dog the other day en route to the local park, I came across loads of little children on their way to school. They all looked so small and so tidy in their brand new, clean uniforms. Some looked happy and excited. More than one shed a few tears and had to be comforted  by mummy. And it really hit me that, for the first time in memory, I am not a part of that experience. My children are grown. My youngest is flying the nest off to university next week. That part of my life is over. It was almost unbearably poignant. How is it that is seems like yesterday that my boys were those little ones on the first day of school? How did they grow up so fast? Thank goodness I captured those precious moments forever with my camera.

How can 18 years go by in the blink of an eye? One minute they are babies :

The next thing you know, they are on the move, exploring the world

Then they go to school.

And before you know it, they are teenagers and about to leave home.

They are independent and hardly need us anymore (except for money, laundry and occasional taxi services).

It’s unreal how fast it all goes.

Enjoying precious memories

After I came back from walking the dog, I went straight to my photo albums. Over a cup of tea I pored over them, losing an hour in nostalgia. What a happy/sad feeling. But it was wonderful. It made me feel grateful. Both for the happy times with my boys, and the fact that I had these photographs to help me relive them. That I had captured those precious moments.
