Why outdoor corporate headshots are so effective
Corporate headshots do not need to be boring! In fact, they do not even need to be taken in the office or the studio. In fact, I personally think that some of the best company photos now are outdoor corporate headshots. That’s because recent events have meant that corporate boundaries have expanded. People are now working from home or out of their offices in cafes, parks, shared workspaces etc. So the idea that a company is a group of people all working in an office together has changed. So why shouldn’t corporate portraits reflect this new reality?
Professional preference for outdoor portraits
Personally, even forgetting the events of the past two years, I have always preferred outdoor corporate headshots. Partly this is because I am primarily a natural light photographer, whether photographing in my studio or outdoors. But also because I think backdrops with texture, colour and context are so much more interesting than studio backdrops or plain walls in an office.
I like my outdoor corporate photoshoots to be a relaxed. It’s fun to roam about this amazing city, finding interesting backgrounds including walls, doorways, arches and windows. It’s a great way to frame the subject and add variety and interest to a website’s about page. It is also an informal, relaxed way of shooting portraits and the movement and spontaneity help even the most reluctant subject to relax.
