Why you should book a regular family portrait

I recently had the pleasure of doing a family portrait photoshoot with a wonderful family I had previously photographed a few years before. It brought home to me that it was important to do a regular family portrait.

It was a fun and fabulous shoot but it really struck me how much the children had changed in such a short amount of time. This is the earlier portrait.

I feel the passage of time very strongly now as my youngest son prepares to sit his A levels with a view to attending university from September. This of course will precipitate a whole raft of life changes, for better and for worse, but it just really drives home to me how very quickly my children have grown up. It feels like the blink of an eye.

What Matters Most

Let’s assume that we have say, 80-90 years on this Earth and we spend 20 of them childrearing. That’s only 20%-25% of family time. The rest of our lives are not spent with our children. Really, we only have them for a precious few years. And yet when we look back on our (hopefully) long and busy lives, the thing that we will hold most dear is our babies, however old they might be.

It’s all about what matters most to you. And if, as I am assuming, that is your family then now is the time to celebrate them, as they are right now, with a Family Photoshoot. And then another one a few short years to follow. Because time is flying by and they change every single day/week/month. And you don’t want to miss a bit of it now, nor do you want to fail to preserve the memories to treasure when they are all grown up.

Luckily for me, I was always pointing a camera at my boys. It’s my passion. But have you? And are they portraits which do your children justice?

Isn’t your photo album collection the one thing that you would save in a fire?
