Celebrate International Women’s Day with a professional portrait shoot

How we women can use portraits to show our strength

“This picture shows me at my weakest moment, but looking back, I realise how strong I was” Leo Bamford photographed for Wellbeing of Women after her second ectopic pregnancy #WomenWarriors

This year will surely be remembered as a seminal year for Women. With the #Time’sUp and #MeToo movements as well as the anniversary of the suffragette success in achieving votes for (some) women. It has made the world reflect on what it means to be a woman in the modern age.

As women, we all operate under many labels: mother, sister, daughter, friend, our jobs, our looks, shape and age. Yet in spite of balancing this juggling act, we are often unconfident and self-critical and do not like to be the centre of attention. As a result, we shy away from the camera. Yet these concerns are often our own invention. Truly, as a photographer, I just don’t see them – I simply see beauty, personality, strength and uniqueness.

A beautiful image of yourself is empowering. An impactful way of expressing your personality, strength and character to the world. Of owning your identity. Having a professional portrait made should be a liberating and uplifting experience; it should leave you feeling fabulous, confident and gorgeous.

Even the most camera shy woman can be transformed with a beautiful professional portrait.

I make the women I photograph feel comfortable and good about themselves. Moreover my friendly yet professional nature takes the stress out of posing for my camera. Of course, trust between me and my subject is paramount and work to establish a rapport before we start the photoshoot. Ultimately, my mission is to not only capture the essence of my subject. i also give her the best version of herself and leave her with a spring in her step, feeling fabulous.

You will see from the images below how I achieve this with my portraits.
