Unsure about where to have your personal branding

A lot of people are worried about how their childr

A lot of people are worried about how their children might behave during a children and family photoshoot. Maybe not so much that they will behave badly, but just that they will not be cooperative or engage with the process, especially if they are younger children.

All I can say, is ‘No Problem!’ Why?

I’m a mum of two, I get it. Children have free will and different personalities. Some are pleasers and some are rebels. It’s all fine! On any given day they may be feeling a little emotional or unsettled or unhappy and that’s fine. It’s normal. In a family photoshoot it’s never a given that everyone will be on form. That’s family life!

Getting the shot is my responsibility. I’ve got 24 years of experience photographing children and I’ve seen it all. And what I’ve learned is that most children DON’T want to look into a camera and smile. So we do what they want to do. We look at their toys, we read books, we play football, throw frisbees, eat ice cream, etc.

Why? Because this makes them engaged and happy. And happy children are a joy to photograph and make for the best possible portraits. And it also means that we capture a little snapshot of their lives as they are right now. With the interests and toys that they are enjoying most.

These photos show Jonathan sharing his interests during one of our photoshoots. Just to give an idea of how I get them to engage with me and, by extension, my camera.

And as a mother of older children, I know how one day these portraits will serve as a reminder to the child (and their parents) of what they were like at this stage of their lives.

It’s why family photoshoots are so important for capturing these stages of your child’s life, before they are gone.
